Home Realized

When you're young you think, "Someday when I'm a mom I'll have my own house & I'll be making dinner for my family..." It's just one of those things you assume as a matter of course.

Now I'm in my house. My baby is sitting on the counter. I'm in my apron preparing dinner, waiting for my husband to come home from work. Then it struck me - Here I am; 25 years old; this is the realization of that girlish ideal. Me, a mom?! A house of my own?! How did this all happen? I took a step back from the situation and watched the idyllic scene play out, an observer of my own play.

It's as if all the significant moments in life pass by without us blinking an eye and then one day you're halfway through folding a load of laundry and you have this monumental realization: I'm a wife! I'm a mother!

Next, we ask ourselves: What does it mean to be a wife, a mother?

As a wife and mother I am creating a home. But home is so much more than simply a physical location. The home that my husband and I are creating is a place to raise our children where the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity. A place where my children will learn to speak the truth, to know right from wrong, to value friendship, respect, honor, courage; to accept God's judgment of sinner, and to believe firmly in the forgiveness of sins. A mother is responsible for the atmosphere in her home; creating order out of chaos as an example to her children. A godly mother, who is faithful to the Word, tells her children that though the world may promise all kinds of pleasures nevertheless that road leads to death; true life and joy are found only in Christ. A godly mother also receives daily baptism and allows herself to be covered by her husband because she cannot do all these things on her own. We find enjoyment and fulfillment in our vocations when we receive the grace of God through the forgiveness of sins.

  1. I know what you mean, Grace. It just hits you that He has blessed you so much, and your heart overflows with contentment and gratitude. Delight thyself in the LORD and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4

  3. Hi Grace
I like your blog! It is amazing, that we're moms!
I think that often when I'm with Leah or you.
I think it's because we grew up together. and cause I was your babysitter.

    1. Hi Patricia. Glad you like my blog. I'm also amazed that we are moms together and that we have children of the same age who will grow up to be great friends. Many happy returns on all those years of babysitting!
